With the Pitch, Abacus targets the combination of waterproofing, breathability and flexibility. The Pitch is waterproof-tested to 15,000 millimeters of water and boasts a breathability of 30,000 grams. What do those numbers actually mean? The breathability of GoreTex, according to Abacus, is around 10,000 gramms. And while GoreTex has a higher waterproofing number, Abacus argues that the trade-off is in flexibility.
The company's managing director points to the wet and cold 2007 Solheim Cup as evidence of the Pitch rain jacket's performance. Sven-Olof Karlsson is quoted in a company news release saying, "Abacus sponsored The European Solheim Cup team (in Sweden) two years ago. It was fantastic to see how the European team players kept their Abacus rain jackets on, while the opposition played in sweaters, sheltered under umbrellas, and this is exactly why our rain jackets were appreciated so much by the European players."
The Abacus Pitch rain jacket features sealed seams, comes with a two-year warranty, and is available as a plain jacket, a hooded jacket, and with two different pairs of trousers.
Abacus will also debut a Spring/Summer collection for 2009 in America, with men's wear and women's wear lines. More information on both the Pitch rain jacket and the Spring/Summer apparel collection can be found at www.abacus-golf.com.
