For much of its history, Fourteen Golf specialized in designing clubs for other companies, including Titleist, Srixon and Wilson. But the Japanese company transitioned into manufacture of its self-branded clubs, with many Asian touring professional playing its wedges. And that's the audience Fourteen mostly targeted, until now.

"Typically we design Fourteen Golf products specifically for the professional," said Marcy Kamoda, the company's COO. But the newly introduced UT-409 Utility Wood, Kamoda said, "performs for the average golfer as well as the professional."

A company press release goes so far as to declare that the UT-409 falls into the game-improvement category. The hybrid is designed to help golfers achieve a higher launch, with playability from a wide variety of lies. The proprietary Fourteen Golf graphite shaft has a mid-launch kickpoint and stiff butt, and the hybrids are designed for a mid- to high trajectory.

The Fourteen Golf UT-409 Utility Wood carries an MSRP of $241.99. For more info, visit fourteengolf.com.
