The irons transition from a moderate cavityback to blade style through the set, beginning with a pocket cavity in the 3- and 4-irons; split cavity in the 5-, 6- and 7-irons, and muscleback in the 8- and 9-irons and pitching wedge.
Nike Golf staffer Justin Leonard is quoted in the company news release thusly: "The pocket cavity long irons look, feel and sound just like a blade iron, but it is much easier to get the ball in the air with these compared to blades."
Center-of-gravity position is progressive through the set, beginning low in the long irons and rising at a consistent level through the pitching wedge, a design element targeting optimal launch conditions.
The irons are forged from 1025 Forged Carbon Steel. The (conforming) grooves on the clubfaces are closer together, deeper, and there are more of them.
The Nike VR Pro Combo Irons are available as a set (3-PW) beginning Nov. 26, 2010, with an MSRP of $1079.99. Stock shafts are the Dynamic Gold steel, and the set is available in RH and LH. A 2-iron can be purchased separately. nikegolf.com
