Guide Review - Nickent Goddess Collection

There was a time, not too long ago, when a set of women's golf clubs - or "ladies clubs" as they were often called - consisted of second-rate materials painted in "girlie" colors. Or men's clubs that had been trimmed by an inch or so and given a color scheme that was usually pink-based.

No more. More and more of the top golf club manufacturers are turning out high-quality women's sets that incorporate the latest in technology and set composition ideas.

The Nickent Goddess Collection is the latest, and it's a great addition to the women's market.

The Goddess Collection includes 10 clubs: a 400cc, 14-degree titanium driver; steelheaded 3-wood; 4, 5 and 6 ironwood hybrids; 7, 8 and 9 irons, plus pitching wedge and sand wedge.

All are equipped with flexible stock shafts and soft Winn grips. The MSRP at time of launch is $799.

The violet-and-black color scheme is quite attractive. It's great to see a women's set that doesn't have any pink!

The women who played the Goddess Collection for us praised not just its appearance, but the playability. The solid feel and forgiveness of the driver drew high marks. The ironwoods in the place of traditional irons was welcomed by all; the hybrids were found to be much easier to hit by most who tried.

We took a few whacks ourselves and agree with it all. (By the way, guys, occasionally taking your wife's clubs to the range can be a good practice drill - the softer shafts will force you to slow down your swing.)
