Game-tracking and analysis software is becoming a bigger business all the time. And one company whose business is booming - at least with touring professionals - is Albatross-Software, makes of "The Aviary" program.

The Aviary, according to 2000 PGA Teacher of the Year Jim Suttie, "is a unique and useful tool for tracking your performance, and pinpointing the strengths and weaknesses of your game over time. This program has all the bases covered."

It covers the bases for at least 50 touring pros, according to the company.

The Aviary may be gaining a following on the PGA Tour, but the program is designed for golfers of all abilities, so long as they are serious about golf.

The Aviary software includes a statistical database that grows along with the golfer, and can be filtered to show trend lines over hundreds of different statistical and performance categories. The program can also handle images and video files.

There is a custom calendar, a customizable golf course database tool, logs for tracking weather conditions, wind directions, and balls and clubs used during the round, in addition to all the basics.

All such information, according to Albatross-Software, is easy to input using intuitive graphical interfaces, and easy to sort, search and retrieve.

Nationwide Tour player Brad Adamonis is one of those touring professionals who uses The Aviary.

"I use it practically everyday, as I can see what clubs, and what golf ball are working best for me in what conditions, what clubs I normally hit into the green at a specific tournament, even what type of greens I putt my best on, and when I'm approaching burn out," Adamonis said. "Over time I can determine one driver or putter that is best for me, and spot strengths or weaknesses."

The company is also donating a portion of sales to charity. Since the middle of 2003, Albatross-Software.com has donated a percentage of each sale to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF).

A demo of The Aviary is available on Albatross-Software.com. The programs carries a price tag, at the time of this writing, of $59.99. Interested parties should check the system requirements on the website.

"The credit for any golfer’s success is 100-percent attributable to the decisions he or she makes regarding their game, on and off the golf course – including the equipment they use, and the actions they take to prepare themselves to play," said Mark Holton, CEO and Founder of Albatross-Software.

"What we’ve engineered for golfers is similar to what, say, a NASA scientist uses to evaluate flight data, or what an economist might use to evaluate trends in the market. By applying the same practices to one’s golf game, trends clearly reveal themselves. Through self-evaluation of your performance on a daily basis and over the long term, you learn not only proper habits, but cause and effect."
