Precept Adds Hybrid Set for Women, the ECW Hybrid Irons

After consulting with leading experts in women's golf, Precept is launching a new set of hybrid irons for women, the ECW Hybrid set.

The Precept ECW Hybrid set is a combination of utility woods and irons the Precept designed to address two key issues: clubhead speed and launch angle. Typically, women golfers tend to have slower clubhead speeds and, consequently, lower launch angles. Precept reasoned that the ideal equipment for women needed to offer them distance and the ability to get the ball airborne. But, the company said, since women play differently than men, there was no reason to follow the traditional set makeup.

So Precept created a mixture of utility woods and scoring irons that the company believes will help women elevate their game.

"As the golf industry continues efforts to grow the game, an often overlooked segment of the market is women," said Dan Murphy, Director of Marketing, Precept Golf. "Precept recognizes that women have different needs than those of male golfers and as such has created a line of clubs that is woman specific and performance driven."

The ECW Hybrid set starts with two utility woods, the 3/4 (25 degrees of loft) and the 5/6 (30 degrees of loft). These two utility woods incorporate tungsten weights in the clubs to reposition the center of gravity such that they are easier to hit than long irons. The utility clubs should, Precept says, help women get the ball airborne from a wider variety of lies. An elastomer compound insert inside the woods' clubheads is designed to help stabilize the clubhead for more solid shots, even on mis-hits.

The themes of playability and forgiveness carry over to the irons, which fill out the set (7-SW). The irons feature a longer heel-to-toe length for added forgiveness, tungsten weighting in the trailing edge to help get the ball in the air and elastomer compound inserts to reduce vibration and provide more feel.

The Precept ECW Hybrid set comes equipped with a 57-gram, L-flex high modulus carbon graphite shaft, a lightweight shaft designed specifically for lower clubhead speeds. The ECW Hybrid set features a blue/white color scheme.

The Precept ECW Hybrid set carries at MSRP at launch of $600.
