Nike Golf's Slingshot irons and CPR hybrids have both been successes for the company. So Nike is expanding both lines, with several new clubs carrying the Slingshot brand, and two new hybrids joining the CPR family. Here's a rundown:
Nike Slingshot Tour Irons
The original Slingshot irons, as well as the Slingshot OSS irons, were excellent game-improvement clubs. With the Slingshot Tour Irons, Nike is minimizing some of the more obvious game-improvement design features to appeal to golfers playing at higher levels (i.e., lower handicaps). The body of the Slingshot Tour Irons are made from 431 stainless steel, 25-percent softer than 17-4 stainless. The Slingback design that makes Slingshot irons easy to spot is still there, but at address it is not as visible to the golfer. With the shallower Slingback design and minimal offset, Nike says these irons allow for more shot-shaping creativity. And their Custom 455 face material has a thinner top-line for a more traditional appearance than the original Slingshots.
These stock shaft is True Temper Dynamic Gold. A set, 3-PW, carries an MSRP of $799.99.
Slingshot and CPR Hybrids
For the first time, Nike Golf is introducing its Slingshot technology into hybrids. At the same time, it is expanding its popular CPR line of hybrids.
Slingshot Hybrids and Slingshot Tour Hybrids
The Slingshot Tour Hybrid will be available in pro shops beginning Feb. 2006, with an MSRP of $179.99 with steel shafts and $199.99 with graphite shafts. Nike Golf Tour players Stewart Cink and Trevor Immelman used prototypes of this club throughout the 2005 PGA Tour season.
Of the two Slingshot hybrids, the Tour Hybrid is designed for better players with a compact shape and minimal offset for greater workability.
The "regular" Slingshot Hybrid has more game-improvement features in its design including a weight-saving carbon crown and low-slung Slingback design that help push the center of gravity lower and deeper.
The Slingshot Hybrid will be available in pro shops beginning in March 2006, with an MSRP of $179.99 in steel and $199.99 in graphite.
CPR 3 Iron-Woods and CPR 3 Woods
Following the success of the original CPR hybrids, and then the CPR 2 clubs, now comes the CPR 3 hybrids. Two versions - the CPR 3 Wood and CPR 3 Iron-Wood - will be available beginning in March 2006. The MSRP for each will be $159.99 with graphite shaft or $139.99 with steel shaft.
The CPR 3 hybrids are designed to help golfers who struggle with long irons, or struggle with any club in getting the ball airborne or in making solid contact from a variety of lies.
Compared to earlier generations of CPR clubs, the new versions offer an improved geometric design with a lower and deeper center of gravity.
The CPR 3 Iron-Woods feature a scoop back design, and are aimed at golfers who prefer a smaller hybrid head design and more boring trajectory. The CPR 3 Iron-Woods are available in a shaft that is 1.75 inches longer than the CPR 3 Wood shaft, and a 16-degree version of the Iron-Wood is also available.
The CPR 3 Woods are for golfers who prefer a larger head design (more like a true wood), and offer a wider sole designed to minimize digging and fat shots. The shaft is shorter than in the CPR 3 Iron-Woods, for greater control and accuracy.
