Mizuno MX-500 Driver Promises Extreme Forgiveness

Every golf manufacturer has been on a quest the past couple years to reposition weight in its drivers in order to lower and deepen the center of gravity. A lower, deeper COG helps get the ball airborne on a higher trajectory and with more forgiveness.

The Mizuno MX-500 driver, the newest driver from that company, attacks the issue by utilizing composite crown technology along with a toe insert that lightens those parts of the clubhead.

The Mizuno MX-500 driver falls in Mizuno's game improvement lineup of clubs. The goal with this driver is to provide a high trajectory with optimum spin rates, creating long distance and maximum forgiveness.

As Mizuno describes it:

"A new, innovative graphite toe insert and graphite top crown allow the ideal amount of weight redistribution around the club head, thus positioning the COG lower and deeper for a high, straight ball flight. Moreover, the new Perimeter weight slot distributes weight deep and toward the perimeter for increased forgiveness and an easy, high launch."

The toe insert and graphite crown together save 30 grams of weight, which is repositioned through the use of the perimeter weight slot.

The Mizuno MX-500 driver is 460cc in clubhead volume with the maximum allowable COR. It comes standard with the Mizuno Exsar 50 Graphite shaft and Golf Pride Tour Velvet 58 round grip, but other shafts and grips are available as custom options.

The Mizuno MX-500 driver is available in 8.5, 9.5, 10.5, and 11.5 degree lofts for right-handed models; a left-handed model is available only in 9.5 and 10.5 degree lofts.

The MSRP is $420.
