Heavy Putter "Deep Face" Series
Five models make up Heavy Putter's new "Deep Face" series (or DF Series) from Boccieri Golf. Like all Heavy Putter models, these are nearly twice as weighty as most conventional putters, an approach the company says help golfers achieve a better pendulum stroke by engaging the larger muscles in the arms and shoulders, thus helping control or eliminate hindering hand and wrist movements.
The "Deep Face" series is so-called because the putter models in the series are all a quarter-inch taller in face height. This helps move the sweet spot up, closer to the equator of the golf ball, and also raises the center of gravity. The effect, the company says, is better skid-roll characteristics that result in a truer roll and improved distance control.
The five models in the DF Series are:
- C2-DF - Heavy Putter's version of a traditional blade. Has a plumbers neck hosel and a full shaft of offset.
- D1-DF and D3-DF ("The Camelback") - A mallet with three adjoining "humps" perpendicular to the back of the putter face as an alignment aid (see photo on this page). The D1-DF is center-shafted; the D3-DF has a double-bend shaft.
- E1-DF and E3-DF ("The American Standard") - Dome-shaped, high-MOI mallet; E1 is center-shafted, E3 has a double-bend shaft.
- F3-DF ("The Stealth") - A blade, but with two "wings" extending rearward from the heel and toe, respectively. Double-bend shaft is heel-mounted.
- G3-DF ("The Rake") - A traditional mallet with alignment lines sloping toward the face.
Two of these putters - the G3-DF and C2-DF - also come in versions targeted at women and featuring pink accents. Standard, mid and long lengths are available for all Deep Face putters. The MSRP on standard-length putters is $169.
