Nicklaus Premium Lineup
Jack Nicklaus' eponymous golf equipment comes in three distinct lines. At the upper end of the scale is the Nicklaus Premium brand, clubs targeted at avid golfers (whether they be low or not-so-low handicappers); at the value end of the scale is the Golden Bear brand, lower-cost clubs targeted at the beginner-to-intermediate market; and in-between is the Nicklaus Golf brand, for golfers who seek the latest technologies but at a lower price point.

The Nicklaus Premium lineup in 2007 features woods and hybrids built around what the company calls "Dual Point Advantage." A "Dual Point Advantage" clubhead is one in which the center of gravity is aligned with the most flexible point on the clubface. Nicklaus Golf engineers say this "dual point" positioning creates a better transfer of energy from the club to the ball while still keeping the COR within USGA limits.

The "Dual Point Advantage" approach is utilized in the Dual Point 460cc Driver, the Dual Point Fairways, and the Dual Point Hybrids.

The driver, which comes standard with a shaft codeveloped with Fujikura, is available in right-handed lofts of 8, 9, 10.5 and 12 degrees; in right-handed offset lofts of 10.5, 12 and 15 degrees; and left-handed lofts of 9 and 10.5 degrees. The MSRP is $299.99.

The fairway woods are available in right-handed lofts of 13, 15, 18 and 22 degrees; right-handed offset lofts of 15 and 18 degrees; and left-handed lofts of 15 and 18 degrees. MSRP is $169.99.

And the Dual Point hybrids come in lofts of 18, 21, 24 and 27 degrees for right-handers and 21, 24 and 27 degrees for lefties. The MSRP is $69.99 to $89.99.

Also new from Nicklaus Premium are the NPS-1 irons. "NPS" stands for "Nicklaus Player Series," and this set is targeted at scratch golfers through 10 handicappers. The NPS-1 irons have a straighter leading edge and less offset and bounce than previous Nicklaus Premium irons, with greater workability the goal.

The rear of the clubhead features a moderate-depth cavity with a muscleback-style design inside the cavity. This construction, the company says, allows for a solid feel on center strikes but more forgiveness on off-center ones.

The Nicklaus Premium NPS-1 irons come in 2-9 with PW, GW and SW, and in right-handed only. Shaft options include Rifle Matched Steel (firm or tour stiff), and new Rifle Black graphite (A, R, S flexes).
