A year ago, Bridgestone introduced the Tour B330 ball, designed for low-handicappers with high swing speeds who could take advantage of the ball's technology.

Now, Bridgestone is ready with two new golf balls for the rest of us. The e5 and e6 balls from Bridgestone are geared to mid-handicappers who have concerns about trajectory or sidespin affecting the distances they achieve with their drivers.

"When choosing which golf ball best fits a player's game, so much is made of swing speed, but really swing speed is only part of the equation," said Shunsuke Tayama, Golf Ball Marketing Manager, Bridgestone Golf, Inc. "Actually driver spin plays an important role in determining trajectory and distance. Our goal was to develop golf balls that optimize trajectory to maximize distance for a broader range of amateur golfers."

The Bridgestone e5 and Bridgestone e6 golf balls will be available on No. 15, 2005, and carry an MSRP of $38 per dozen.

One of the problems that many mid-handicappers and up have, one that costs distance, is a trajectory that is too low. Less carry equals less overall distance. The e5 ball is Bridgestone's attempt to address that problem for this market segment.

The e5 is a two-piece ball, but one with a urethane cover for more responsiveness around greens. The e5 features Bridgestone's Seamless Cover Technology and a 432-dimple pattern. Its Large Kinetic Energy Core, which Bridgestone says creates a higher initial launch velocity, combined with its aerodynamics are designed to create a higher trajectory for greater carry.

Bridgestone e6 Golf Ball
The e6 is a multilayer ball whose design is intended to reduce sidespin off the driver, helping players plagued by the hook or slice gain extra yards off the tee.

The Bridgestone e6 golf ball utilizes an SCT seamless 330-dimple design and the Soft Kinetic Energy Core that is designed to improve feel on all shots but also to maximize the launch angle off the tee. The Linear Velocity Inner Layer, which is designed to generate high resilience and reduce sidespin off of the driver, is a key to Bridgestone's effort to minimize sidespin.
