Terrell Thomas is a football player who is passionate about golf. A second-round pick in the 2008 NFL Draft, out of Southern Cal, Thomas starts at cornerback for the New York Giants. And he had a great season in 2009 with five interceptions, 18 passes defensed and 85 tackles. But he really wanted to talk golf – so we let him. Thomas spoke with About.com Golf correspondent Todd Berman on Aug. 31, 2010.

We know Emmitt Smith, Tony Romo and Drew Brees all play golf, but a defensive guy?
Yeah, we (defensive guys) play, too – probably not as good as the offense because they are all hand/eye coordination. But we're making a push to let them know that we play, too.

What got you interested in playing golf, and when?
I had always wanted to play the game. And growing up there wasn't anyone to take me to the course. But in the NFL after my rookie year, I got some clubs and just like that, the golf bug bit me. I ordered everything from training aids to club covers.

How many rounds do you play in the offseason?
I really try to play twice a week because for me, it's about muscle memory. Over the summer I played Pebble (Beach), Spyglass (Hill) and Spanish Bay – 90 holes in 3 days. That was fun!

What's your home club and handicap?
Right now, I don't belong to a club and since I just had a baby daughter I probably won't be getting out too much. But my average score is 90-92.

What's in your bag?
I carry a driver, 3-wood, rescue/hybrid, 4-PW, sand wedge and putter.
