About the U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship:

The U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship - one of the United States Golf Association's (USGA) national championships - was played annually at a different public golf course through 2014. The USGA discontinued the tournament after that point. The tournament was sometimes called the Women's "Publinks" as a kind of shorthand, or "Publinx."

The USWAPL was open to women amateurs who did not hold playing privileges at private courses - golfers who were not country-clubbers, in other words, but were public-course players.

Format
The field played two rounds of stroke-play qualifying. The Top 64 moved on to match play, with 18-hole matches. The final was a 36-hole match.

2014 WAPL
Alice Jo of China defeated Eun Jeong Seong of South Korea in the all-teen championship match by a score of 3 and 2. Jo took the lead on the seventh hole of the match, scheduled for 36 holes, and never relinquished it. Jo was 15 years old and Seong 14, and Jo was the first golfer from mainland China to win a USGA championship.

U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship - Facts & Figures:

Most Victories

  • Pearl Sinn is the only golfer to reach the finals three times. She lost in the finals in 1987, then won in 1988-89.

  • Sinn is the only golfer to win the U.S. Women's Amateur Championship and U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship in the same year, doing so in 1988.

  • Jill McGill is the only other player to win both the Women's Amateur (1993) and Women's Publinks (1994).
