Pine Barrens Golf Club is in Jackson, N.J., shaped from the sandy soil of the New Jersey Pine Barrens region. Pine Barrens has an excellent reputation for conditioning, with even its tees hand-cut and rolled. The course tips out at 7,112 yards, and every one of those yards is free of homes or other development. Pine Barrens officials like to say that "Pine Barrens is mercifully devoid of hidden shots and gimmicks." The layout is what golfers remember. Huge, sandy waste bunkers that sometimes stretch from tee to green, and holes carved from amongst tall pine trees are the signatures. Landing areas are wide and greens are huge, but getting on the right parts of the green make the approaches a challenge. Photo: No. 4 at Pine Barrens. The waste area to the right doesn't extend much beyond the sets of tee boxes, so doesn't come into play. The hole is 453 yards from the back tees. The approach is to a well-protected green; this par-4 is the No. 2 handicap hole. Photographer: Jay Flemma Back to Course Gallery Homepage
