Oitavos Golfe course opened in 2001, part of the Quinta da Marinha resort about 30 miles outside Lisbon, Portugal.

Beginning in 2005, the European Tour's Portuguese Open will be played at Oitavos, a design of the Arthur Hills/Steve Forrest & Associates architectural firm. Hills, designed the course with senior design associate Drew Rogers, and the pair crafted a layout the provides golfers with ocean views from all 18 holes.

On some holes golfers find themselves amidst pine trees, while on others Oitavos' water views are framed by tall dunes. The middle portion of the course also offers views of the cliffs at Cabo da Rocha, the westernmost point in Continental Europe.

Photo: Hole No. 5 at Oitavos is a 434-yard par-4 that doglegs left. The hole plays slightly uphill and only the back edge of the green is visible from the fairway.
