Kiawah Island is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean on the east. To the west, it's separated from the South Carolina mainland by the Kiawah River, with Charleston to the northeast.

The Kiawah Island Golf Resort is one of the most-acclaimed in the world. Its five spectacular golf courses are led by the famed Ocean Course, site of the Ryder Cup's "War by the Shore" in 1991.

The photo above pictures hole Nos. 3 and 6 on the Pete Dye-designed Ocean Course. It is one of just a handful of golf courses to earn a 5-star rating from "Golf Digest's Places to Play" in 2004 and is regularly considered among the best in the U.S.
