Who is the "Fittest Guy in America"?

Tuesday May 20, 2008
tiger woods - men's fitness The image to the right might provide a clue: The "Fittest Guy in America" is Tiger Woods, according to Men's Fitness magazine. Hey, if they were going to put a golfer on the list, John Daly sure wasn't going to be the choice.

The June/July 2008 issue of Men's Fitness, which appeared on newsstands May 19, included the magazine's listing of "The 25 Fittest Guys in America." For the first time, one person was singled out as the fittest, and that was Tiger. Others making the list include actors Will Smith, Daniel Craig, and Shemar Moore; athletes Brady Quinn, Chase Utley, and Dwight Howard; rappers Romeo Miller and Flo Rida; television host Mark Steines; and Sen. Barack Obama.

The image appearing here is a scan of the Men's Fitness page devoted to Tiger's selection as No. 1. The magazine's blurb about Woods' selection begins this way:

Because he made us care about a sport we didn’t think was, well, a sport. Because he raised the bar and made pro golfers care about winning again. Because he made himself better, even while he was clearly the best. Because he’s walking history. Because even the icons say he’s the best. Because he loves the gym. Because he’s the first golfer we’ve ever thought of as an athlete.
