Looking for a good book about Tiger Woods? There are a ton of them out there, including a series of instructional books by John Andrisani. But these books are less instructional than they are instructive. And, if they are done right, illuminating. Click on a title in order to compare prices.
This is Tiger's book on what it takes to be Tiger Woods. His approach to practice, his approach on the course; what shots are hardest for him and how he masters them. Includes a lot of tips and great insight into the approach of the world's greatest golfer.
Published in early 2003 and written by Golf Digest columnist Tom Callahan, this book chronicles Woods' career and life from age 20 through age 27. Those are the years in which Woods burst onto the PGA Tour and dominated it. Lots of interesting comments from other golfers.
3. "Raising the Bar: The Championship Years of Tiger Woods"
From well-known golf writer Tim Rosaforte, this book may have been a little premature when it debuted in 2002. After all, Tiger's "championship years" probably have a ways to go. This book covers the changes in Woods' swing and life, and chronicles his major victories.4. "Playing Through: Straight Talk ..."
The full title is "Playing Through: Straight Talk on Hard Work, Big Dreams & Adventures with Tiger Woods," and it's written by Tiger's father, Earl Woods. And like another book Earl wrote, this one is full of advice. The topic this time is dealing with the tremendous pressures Tiger Woods endures - while retaining a strong set a values.5. "The Chosen One: Tiger Woods and the Dilemma of Greatness"
This book began as an article in New Yorker magazine, which tells you that it's going to have an intellectual approach. But if you're looking for a thoughtful (but scholarly) consideration of the Tiger Woods phenomenon, this will be a good choice for you.6. "Training a Tiger: A Father's Guide ..."
The full title is "Training a Tiger: A Father's Guide to Raising a Winner in Both Golf & Life." Earl Woods likes long titles, doesn't he? This is his father's account of how Tiger developed the confidence, self-esteem, intelligence and, yes, golf game, that's gotten him where he is today. The book is about Earl Woods' philosophies of life and parenting more than it is about Tiger. There are four (to date) books about Tiger Woods' game by John Andrisani. "Think Like Tiger" and "Short Game Magic" are perhaps the best.
8. "Start Something: You Can Make A Difference"
It's not really about Tiger, but I'm throwing it in because of its topic and its beneficiary. Written by Earl Woods and the staff of the Tiger Woods Foundation, this book's focus is on helping children build self-esteem. It's full of sound, basic advice on simple tactics through which parents can help their children's self-image. A portion of the proceeds goes to the Tiger Woods Foundation.
