Jeremy Northam, one of Britain's finest actors, will next star in Keith Gordon's "The Singing Detective" opposite Mel Gibson, Robert Downey Jr., Katie Holmes and Robin Wright Penn for Paramount Classics. In 2003, he was seen in Norman Jewison's "The Statement" opposite Michael Caine, Tilda Swinton, Alan Bates and Charlotte Rampling. Other recent appearances include Neil LaBute's "Possession" opposite Gwyneth Paltrow, Jennifer Ehle and Aaron Eckhart, and in Michael Apted's romantic thriller "Enigma" opposite Dougray Scott, Kate Winslet and Saffron Burrows. He starred as Ivor Novello in Robert Altman's critically acclaimed "Gosford Park" co-starring Kristin Scott Thomas, Emily Watson, Maggie Smith, Clive Owen, Ryan Phillippe and Helen Mirren. Northam and the cast of "Gosford Park" won the 2002 Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by the Cast of a Theatrical Motion Picture.

Northam also garnered critical acclaim for his performance in David Mamet's "The Winslow Boy," for which he earned the 1999 Pathe British Performance Award at the Edinburgh International Film Festival and was nominated for the Best Actor Elle Award. In addition, he was nominated for the 1999 British Actor of the Year Award, which recognized his collective work for the season.

Northam's other film credits include starring in Irwin Winkler's "The Net" opposite Sandra Bullock, Douglas McGrath's sleeper hit "Emma" opposite Gwyneth Paltrow, Guillermo del Toro's "Mimic" opposite Mira Sorvino, Steven Spielberg's "Amistad," Brian Skeet's "The Misadventures of Margaret," Mark Illsley's "Happy, Texas," Oliver Parker's "An Ideal Husband" opposite Julianne Moore, Rupert Everett and Cate Blanchett, and Merchant Ivory's "The Golden Bowl" opposite Uma Thurman and Nick Nolte.

On television, Northam starred in Craig Zadan and Neil Meron's critically acclaimed CBS television biopic "Martin & Lewis" where he starred as Dean Martin opposite Sean Hayes' Jerry Lewis.

On stage, Northam is a recipient of the prestigious Olivier Award (the British equivalent of the Tony) for outstanding newcomer for his 1990 performance as Edward Voysey, the moral pivot of the Royal National Theatre revival of the 1905 play, "The Voysey Inheritance." He also received wide recognition for his title-role performance in "Hamlet" at the Olivier Theater. He starred in the Royal National Theater's production of "The School for Scandal" and William Wycherley's "Country Wife" at the Royal Shakespeare Company. His other theater credits include "Love's Labour's Lost," "The Gift of the Gorgon," "Three Sisters" and "The Way of the World." Northam*s most recent stage performance was in the acclaimed "Certain Young Men" at the West End's Almeida Theatre.
