Nick Faldo overcomes a 6-shot deficit and beats Greg Norman by five shots to win The Masters. Norman's final-round collapse is the largest in Masters history.

Tiger Woods wins his third straight U.S. Amateur, the first man to win three in a row.

Jack Nicklaus wins The Tradition, becoming the first player on the Senior Tour to win the same tournament four times.

The Strata, made by Spalding, is the first multilayer non-wound golf ball.

The MC Tour, by Precept, is the first three-piece, non-wound ball with a urethane cover.

Tiger Woods turns pro, wins two late-season PGA Tour events and is named Rookie of the Year. His first victory comes at the Las Vegas Invitational when he shoots 64 in the final round, then defeats Davis Love III on the first playoff hole.

The AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am is canceled due to flooding at Spyglass Hill Golf Club. It is the first time since 1949 that a PGA Tour event is not completed.

Kelli Kuehne wins the U.S. Women's Amateur and the British Ladies Amateur.

Annika Sorenstam wins her second straight U.S. Women's Open title.

Judy Bell becomes the first female president of the USGA.

The European Tour, Japan Golf Tour, PGA TOUR, PGA Tour of Australasia and Southern Africa Tour form the International Federation of PGA Tours. The alignment would lead to the World Golf Championships and the first widely accepted worldwide golf ranking system.
