Nick Faldo wins his third British Open.

Tiger Woods becomes the first player to win the U.S. Junior Amateur in consecutive years.

Tiger Woods plays in his first PGA Tour event, the Nissan Los Angeles Open. He shoots 72-75, missing the cut by six strokes.

Twenty-nine years after his first victory, Raymond Floyd, at age 49, wins the Doral Ryder Open. The 29-year gap between his first and last Tour wins ties a record set by Sam Snead. Later in the year, Floyd wins on the Senior Tour, becoming the first player to win on the PGA Tour and the Senior Tour in the same year.

In winning the LPGA Championship, Betsy King (68-66-67-66) becomes the first player post four sub-70 rounds in an LPGA major.

Patty Sheehan is the first player to win the U.S. Women's Open and the British Women's Open in the same year. However, the British Women's Open is not considered a major until 2001.

Tom Kite's only major championship victory comes at Pebble Beach in the U.S. Open.

Clyde R. Housel, age 84, shoots a 68 at Los Amigos Golf Course in Downey, Calif. The 16 strokes under his age is the record for that obscure stat.
