The U.S. defeats Europe for the Ryder Cup, 14.5 to 13.5, when Bernhard Langer misses a 6-foot par putt on the final hole of the final match, giving Hale Irwin the halve. Had Langer made the putt, the Ryder Cup would have ended in a tie with Europe retaining the Cup.
