Jack Nicklaus, at age 46, wins his sixth Masters championship. It would be his final major championship and PGA Tour win.

Bob Tway holes a bunker shot on the tournament's final hole to edge Greg Norman for the PGA Championship.

Pat Bradley wins three LPGA majors (Nabisco Dinah Shore, LPGA Championship, du Maurier Classic).

Greg Norman uses a Spalding Tour Edition golf ball in winning the British Open. The Spalding Tour Edition is the first non-wound ball of the modern era to win a major.
The International, played with the Modified Stableford scoring system, is played for the first time. Ken Green wins.

Jodie Mudd shoots 80 in the third round of the PGA Tour Honda Classic, but goes on to win. It is the most recent time a player who shoots 80 or higher for a round wins a PGA Tour event.
