Lee Trevino wins the PGA Championship, giving him two wins each in the PGA and the U.S. and British Opens. At the PGA, Trevino plays a TaylorMade metal driver, becoming the first golfer to win a major using the club that revolutionized golf.

Nick Faldo's first win in a regular PGA Tour event comes in the Sea Pines Heritage Classic.

Greg Norman's first PGA Tour victory comes in the Kemper Open.

Five years after their introduction, and three years after one was first used to win a PGA Tour event, the TaylorMade metalwood becomes the most-played woods on Tour.

Fuzzy Zoeller and Greg Norman play an 18-hole playoff for the U.S. Open, with Zoeller winning 67-75.
