The USGA cancels all events for the remainder of World War II. The PGA continues to play a reduced schedule.

The manufacture of golf equipment is halted by the U.S. government as part of wartime rationing of metals and materials.

Sam Snead receives a delay of his induction into the Navy so he can play the PGA Championship. He wins the tournament.

Byron Nelson and Ben Hogan square off in an 18-hole playoff for The Masters title. Nelson wins, shooting 69 to Hogan's 70.
