The USGA rules steel-shafted clubs to be legal.

Union Hardware (later known as Royal Precision) is the first American company to manufacture steel shafts.

Bobby Jones wins his first U.S. Amateur title.

Walter Hagen wins the first of four consecutive PGA Championship titles.

The R&A sets up a Scientific Advisory Committee on Greenkeeping, now known as the Sports Turf Research Institute, to research and improve turfgrasses.

Sectional qualifying is first employed by the USGA for the U.S. Open.
