Pine Valley Golf Club in Pine Valley, N.J., opens, designed by George Crump. It will later become considered one of the best courses in the world, frequently rated No. 1 in the U.S. Crump dies with the 12th through 15th holes not yet completed.

Designed by Donald Ross, Oakland Hills Golf Club opens in Bloomfield, Mich. The original course is now designated the South Course.
