The USGA declares that yardages for determing par are: Par-3, up to 225 yards; par-4, 225-425 yards; par-5; 426-600 yards; par-6, 601 yards and up.

Harold Hilton is the first foreign-born player to win the U.S. Amateur. He is also the first golfer to win the U.S. and British amateur championships in the same year.

John McDermott is the first American-born player to win the U.S. Open. He also sets a record as the youngest, at 19 years, 10 months and 12 days.

The R&A rejects steel-shafted clubs as illegal.

The Canadian Professional Golfers Association is formed.
