With a winning score of 299 in the Western Open, Willie Anderson is the first player to break 300 in a U.S. tournament.

The Hoylake (England) Open is the first professional event won by a player using a Haskell ball. Sandy Herd, who would also win the British Open this year using the Haskell, is the player.
