Harry Vardon wins the first of his six British Open titles.

Willie Park Jr., a British Open winner, golf course designer and club maker, writes and publishes the golf instructional book The Game of Golf in England. In addition to instruction, it includes descriptions of golf etiquette, interactions with caddies, and a chapter on golf course design.
