Approximate date of the introduction of separate teeing grounds. Players had, up to this time period, teed off for the next hole from the green of the preceeding hole.

Adelaide Golf Club is the first golf club established in Australia, but survives only a few years (the course that is now known as Royal Adelaide was established about 20 years later).

Young Tom Morris wins his third straight British Open championship. This feat leads to the creation of the Claret Jug.
