Water Hole

By Brent Kelley, About.com

Definition: A hole on the golf course that features water, usually in a position that forces the golfer to play over it in order to complete the hole (i.e., a stream that crosses the fairway or a pond that fronts the green). A lake sitting alongside a long portion of a fairway would qualify a hole to be called a "water hole," too. If there's water in a spot such that it is a danger to golfers' shots, then it's a water hole.
