Striping

Definition: Think about baseball for a moment. You see a game on TV, and the outfield grass has a criss-cross pattern of light and dark patches. That is striping, and it is sometimes done on fairways, mostly for appearances. It's caused when blades of grass are pushed in different directions by the course mowers.
