Lip

By , About.com Guide

Definition: 1. A rim of sod usually a couple inches above the level of the sand in a bunker that prevents the possibility of putting out of the bunker. Contrast with "facing," which is a grassy incline that may be several feet in height.

2. The rim of the hole or cup, which leads to the phrase "lip out" when a putted ball catches the edge of the hole without going in.
