Golf Club Without Real Estate

By Brent Kelley, About.com

Definition: To get an official USGA Handicap Index, a golfer must belong to a golf club (as in group or association). However, joining a golf club is not convenient for all golfers; not all golf courses have a Men's or Ladies Golf Association, for example.

So the USGA introduced the concept of a "golf club without real estate." It's a golf club that does not have a home course, but is rather a collection of friends and golfers who play together on a regular basis. A minimum of 10 members is required, and the club must form a handicap committee and abide by the bylaws of the USGA Handicapping System.
