About.com Rating 5

By Brent Kelley, About.com

The Bottom Line

"Driving Range" is exactly that - an online version of a driving range. Hit a bucket of balls and get points based on how close to the flagsticks (there are numerous target greens) you get.

Pros

  • Two versions: Amateur level and professional level.
  • Free to play and no registration required.
  • Reload as often as you want - it's addictive!

Cons

  • Can only be played singly - no one-on-one competition or group rankings.

Description

  • The "Driving Range" game is available on the NabiscoWorld Web site.
  • Our link goes to the amateur version.
  • "Driving Range" requires Shockwave to play; "hyperload" feature is also available for quick loading.
  • Amateur version is a great introduction to the game; pro level is much more difficult.
  • Players get 25 balls and take aim at numerous target greens of differing distances.
  • Choose your club, check the wind, fire at the pin. Points awarded based on proximity to flagstick.
  • Can choose to play from the men's or women's tees.
  • Amateur version uses the 3-click clockwise swing indicator to assess power and spin.
  • Pro version uses the drag-and-fling clockwise swing indicator.
  • Some customizable options, such as "ball cam," and can start a new bucket as often as you like.

Guide Review - NabiscoWorld "Driving Range" Game

"Driving Range" appears on both the NabiscoWorld Web site, and offers both amateur and professional levels.

In Driving Range, golfers choose to play from the women's or men's tees, then take aim at target greens of varying distances with a bucket of 25 balls.

Choose your distance, check the wind, select a club and take a whack. Points are awarded based on how close you get to the flagstick (you don't get points unless you hit the green).

The Professional level is significantly more difficult than the Amateur because of the different methods involved in activating the clockwise swing indicator. At the amateur level, the 3-click method is used (click to start the swing, click at the top when the desired power level is achieved, click again at the bottom to affect direction and strike the ball).

At the professional level, the player left-clicks and holds the button down, drags the mouse back and then flings it forward.

"Driving Range" is an addictive game. It won't be unusual to find yourself reloading that bucket of balls as soon as you've emptied the first one.

You can only play singly, however - no group games or one-on-one competitions. A high scores "hall of fame" is tracked and can be accessed from the game's start page.
