The "Better by Saturday" instructional series of books from Golf Magazine's editors and Top 100 instructors offers quick, easy to follow tips that should serve as great reference material for golfers.
"Better by Saturday" is a series of golf instructional books published by AOL Time Warner Book Group, and compiled by the editors of Golf Magazine.

The series includes volumes on Driving, Short Game, Putting and Iron Play/Long Game.

Open up any book in the series, to any page, and a golfer is sure to recognize the instructors included. It's a who's who of today's greatest golf instructors: Butch Harmon, Bob Toski, Laird Small, Dave Pelz and Jim Flick similar luminaries. All the instructors whose tips appear in the "Better by Saturday" series are members of Golf Magazine's Top 100 instructors list.

How the Books are Organized

A great strength of the "Better by Saturday" books is in their organization. Each book is small, both in its dimensions (even small enough to fit into a golf bag) and page count (just over 100 pages).

That's good news. As Chi Chi Rodriguez has said, "... If you buy a book on golf instruction buy the thinnest book you can find. The thinner the book, chances are the easier and more elementary the instruction. It can do one of two things: help you more or hurt you less. Both are good compared to the alternative."

Each book in the "Better by Saturday" series is organized into sections of faults and fixes. For example, the chapters in the Short Game book are on Pitching, Chipping, Sand Play, Strategy and Specialty Shots.

It's easy for golfers to find their area of need. And once there, each tip is short and to the point - a mere few paragraphs, with one accompanying photo.

Easy to grasp, easy to put into action for many golfers.

Who Will Be Helped by "Better by Saturday"

But will the "Better by Saturday" books actually make you better by Saturday? That depends on your level of skill, knowledge of golf mechanics and ability to put the recommended fixes into action.

The only drawback to having short, concise tips - with just one photo - is that golfers who don't already have a basic understanding of fundamentals may not be able to put into action the fix being offered.

However, there's no doubt that the "Better by Saturday" books can serve as terrifice reference books for most golfers.

Looking to maximize distance? Open up the "Driving" volumn to the its Power chapter and examine the faults and fixes. Are you a solid putter on longer putts but never make the short ones? Open up the "Putting" volume to the Short Putts chapter and get some pointers.

And since the books are small enough to fit into most golf bags, golfers can even carry the books onto the course. What better way to remind yourself of the swing keys you're working on than to have a handy reference book right there with you?

The "Better by Saturday" series of golf instructional books are worthy additions to any golfer's instructional library.
