"We envision great things from the Envision," said STX's general manager, Laura LeMire.
The Envision is a face-balanced, center-rear-weighted putter that will be available in January, 2004, with an MSRP of $175. So where does the "art" come in?
The designer of the Envision is Robert Engman, a well-known sculptor who is also the Chief Designer of the golf division at STX Putters. Earlier in his career, Engman was chairman of the sculpture department at Yale and dean of the art school at Penn. But Engman is also a 6-handicap at Merion Golf Club, where he's a two-time senior champion.
"It looks like a sculpture with all the benefits of a top putter," says LeMire. "It's open rather than being all closed up. It's almost like a big ring. It's a very, very unique looking club. It's very aesthetically pleasing."
Will the Envision be as pleasing to the golfer's putting results as it is to the eye? STX certainly thinks so. The Envision, STX says, offers golfers improved feel, consistency and distance control. It doese so through the ring that LeMire mentioned earlier, moving weight rearward and lowering the center of gravity.
The Envision is the first putter in STXs "Impressionist Series by Bob Engman." The line will expand in 2004 with several new models.
The Envision comes in two faces for various types of greens - black (softest) or red (medium firmness) face. It features a True Temper shaft, proprietary Winn grip and a dark sienna finish. It has a 3-degree loft and 19-degree lie and is available in right-hand only.
