Srixon's I-302 Irons Offer Technology and Tradition

By Brent Kelley, About.com Guide

July 23, 2003 - Srixon today announced the release of its newest set of irons, the I-302 irons. It's an iron set that Srixon says combines the best of technology with the best of tradition.

What does that mean? For tradition, the clubs are forged. For technology, the clubs are cavity backed. For tradition, there is a thin, blade-style topline. For technology, there is a progressive center of gravity.

The I-302 irons, Srixon says, "are very traditional in shape and very modern in performance."

The I-302 series features a perimeter weighted "Tour Cavity" clubhead constructed of soft 1025 forged carbon steel that is shaped by a "6x struck" forging process instead of the customary "4x struck." That process, Srixon says, provides more consistency to the grain and more precise shape to the club head.

Modifying the shape of the "tour back cavity" (cavity back) from the long irons through the short irons positions the center of gravity optimally throughout the set. This allows for an easier squaring of the clubface for the long irons and the optimal penetrating trajectory on the short irons.

I-302 irons are available for right-handed players in 2 through 9, as well as pitching (46 degrees), approach (51 degrees) and sand (57 degrees) wedges. Suggested retail price is $799 per steel set (3-PW) at the time of release.
