"The NP-99 is the exact club Nick Price has been playing every week," said Sonartec President Toru Kamatari. "We have had many players use this prototype model on the PGA Tour this year, and the response has been overwhelming. I believe it is a perfect tribute to Nick and his Hall of Fame achievements to name a club after him."
Sonartec is one of the most-respected names on Tour for fairway woods, and the NP-99 combines elements of the company's very popular SS-02 and SS-03 fairway woods. That combination, Sonartec said, will provide players with "professional grade trajectory and distance."
Price has been using the NP-99 all year, and he uses it with the new high- end Aldila NV shaft, which will be the stock shaft for the NP-99.
The NP-99, on Tour under the moniker BBD, is the most-used Sonartec club on the PGA Tour in 2003 with more than 200 clubs in play. The NP-99 represents more than 30-percent of all Sonartec clubs in play on the PGA Tour this year, and was in the bags of the 2003 Buick Classic winner and the 2003 84 Lumber Classic champion.
The club's design features a horseshoe-shaped weight concentrated in the rear of the sole plate for higher lift and a deeper Center of Gravity for an expanded sweet spot. This perimeter weighting system, combined with Sonartec's "Driving Cavity," aims to help golfers of all levels achieve a high, flat ball flight that increases distance.
The NP-99 comes with a high-polish sole plate and face, a midnight blue metallic clear coat finish on the crown and an exclusive "midnight blue" Aldila NV shaft.
Lofts for the NP-99 are available in 13, 14, 15, 17, 19 and 21 degrees. Pre-booking begins immediately. The combination of the NP-99 club head with the "midnight blue" Aldila NV shaft will be under limited production. Sonartec plans to ship the special edition fairway woods in early December.
The clubs will carry an MSRP of $339 at release.
