If you're a golfer whose attention to equipment news falls short of being detailed, you might not yet be familiar with Sonartec.

But anyone who's been paying attention over the past few years is well aware of this company and its growing reputation.

About.com Golf has had the pleasure of testing three of its products as of this writing, and our ratings continue to go higher. The Super CV Pro Titanium driver first earned four stars, followed by a 4.5-star rating for the SS-03 3-wood and a 5-star rating for the SS-02 7-wood.

The SS-02's rating was the first 5-star rating awarded by About.com Golf to a club (a couple balls had previously garnered 5-star ratings).

Sonartec has been drawing rave reviews for some time, though, on golf's pro tours. At the PGA Greater Hartford Open last week, 14 players were using Sonartec clubs. Three players in the Top 10 at the U.S. Open were using Sonartec.

Nick Price is on the company's tour staff. David Duval was using Sonartec fairway woods when he won the British Open. More than 180 pros used Sonartec clubs on the PGA, Champions and Nationwide tours in 2002.

You get the picture. Sonartec is well-known, well-liked and well-used by the best golfers in the world.

But what can Sonartec offer you?

The company's best-known technological innovation is the Sonartec Driving Cavity. The Driving Cavity serves to remove mass from the sole and back of the clubhead. It reduces ground friction (because there's less sole to touch the ground), which can lead to higher swing speeds.

As a result of the Driving Cavity, there's also a rail, raised up into the clubhead from the bottom, that results in more mass sitting right behind the hitting area.

The design creates a balanced weight distribution that lessens the impact of off-center hits. The club is more forgiving because the Driving Cavity raises and deepens the center of gravity.

All this leads to extra oomph (that means distance), along with a lower, more penetrating ball flight.

Sonartec offers a couple driver models and three lines of fairway woods - the SS-01, SS-02 and SS-03. The faces get deeper and heel-to-toe distances shorter going from -01 to -03, which means the trajectory also lowers as you go up to the SS-03.

Sonartec fairway woods might be the best on the market today. You don't have to take our word for it, however, because Rankmark and GolfTest USA have reached similar conclusions.

If you're in the market for woods, whether a driver or fairway woods, you'll be cheating your game if you don't demo Sonartec.
