Cobra Extends Driver Line, Fairway Woods Line

Two New Drivers, Fairway Metals Geared to Better Players

By Brent Kelley, About.com

Feb 26 2004
Cobra Golf is rounding out its line of metal drivers and fairway woods with the launch of the new King Cobra 400 SZ Tour and 450 SZ Tour drivers and new SZ steel-shafted fairway woods. "SZ" stands for "Sweet Zone,” what Cobra says is an expanded, hotter clubface on the seven-model series of King Cobra drivers.

All King Cobra SZ driver models, including the two new introductions feature:
• Milled Rhombus Oval Insert technology combined with a larger face for greater face flex.
• A visible Dual Weighting System on the sole that moves the center of gravity lower and back to promote a higher moment of inertia for greater stability.
• Lower spin variance across the all-important 9 points hot points across the clubface via modified (flatter) bulge and roll on the face for greater carry distance and accuracy.
• The combination provides for maximum allowable energy transfer and a higher coefficient of restitution (C.O.R.) over a greater effective hitting area, resulting in longer distance, greater forgiveness and a sweet, solid feel and sound.

Here is a brief look at each of the newly introduced models.

King Cobra 400 SZ Tour Driver
The new King Cobra 400 SZ Tour driver utilizes a squared face angle, preferred by better players, that contributes to a lower launch and lower spin rate than the 440 SZ and 400 SZ models. The 400 SZ Tour seeks to provide low-handicappers with greater shot-shaping ability and workability. The 400 SZ Tour has a 400cc head size and is available in lofts of 7.5, 8.5 and 9.5 degrees. The stock shaft is a tour-proven Fujikura Vista Pro 65 at 45 inches with a D2 swingweight. MSRP is $369 and the driver will begin shipping March 1, 2004.

King Cobra 450 SZ Tour Driver
King Cobra SZ is driver used by the eight-member Cobra Long Drive Team, and the performance goal for the new King Cobra 450 SZ Tour is maximum distance. The 450cc head features a deep and wide effective hitting area that promotes greater forgiveness and higher C.O.R. (coefficient of restitution) values on off center hits. The 450 SZ Tour has a squared face angle and 57 degree lie angle. The midweight (65g), high kickpoint Cobra/Penley ETA 65c stock shaft (X, L) at 46 inches is designed for maximum distance at higher swing speeds. The King Cobra 450 SZ Tour is available in 8 degrees of loft with a D3 swing weight. The MSRP is $369 and the driver will begin shipping April 1, 2004.

King Cobra SZ Fairway Metals
The new King Cobra SZ steel-shafted fairway metal family is a companion to the new 400 SZ Tour drivers. The SZ fairways have a straight neck, which, in combination with the steel shaft, can provide better accuracy and workability for better players. The SZ fairways are available in Cobra/Nippon NS950 steel and Cobra/Aldila HM60 graphite shafts with six different lofts (3+, 3, 4+, 5, 7 and 9 woods). MSRP is $185 and they begin shipping March 1, 2004.
