Surveying the Golf Footwear Market

If the Shoe Fits (cont.)

By Brent Kelley, About.com

Another up-and-comer in the market is Cyclonic, which touts its product line as "high performance golf shoes for twenty-first century golfers with a modern sense of style."

In both its new-for-2003 Tour Series and its Classics, Cyclonic's aim is young golfers looking for a golf shoe that looks more like a street shoe. A classy, stylish street shoe.

The slip-on Finleys come in black with gray topstitching; the Logans are lace-ups with charcoal stitching; the Niels are black or burgundy in full-length waterproof, polished leather. A half-dozen or so other styles are also available.

Meanwhile, back at FootJoy, the market leader is at it again with the GelFusion series. The company calls the GelFusion the "most technologically advanced shoe on the planet."

Don't believe 'em? Just check out some of the names they've given to some of the features of the GelFusion shoes: There's AQUAf.l.e.x. leather uppers, EVA Fit-Bed and Dryz Intellitemp foam. There's GelCollar, Tri-Density TPU outsole and OptiFlex forefoot channel. Want more? OK: GelRide heel technology and Titanium Stability Bridge.

What's it all mean? We're not really sure, but we're impressed. And we're not surprised at the MSRP of $185 per pair.

But, then, with its track record, FootJoy has proved it knows how to keep your feet happy.
