OK, so it's not exactly Jeff Foxworthy. But it is Dunlop Golf.
"Redneck" is the branding for Dunlop's new-for-2004 line of putters. And carrying the theme forward, individual putters within the line will carry names such as Bubba, Wilbur and Doublewide.
Redneck Putters stem from an idea by Dunlop's master clubmaker Rick Gray, inventor of Dunlops signature LoCo driver. The Redneck Putters feature a red anodized aluminum milled hosel, whose color and design gives the putters a unique appearance.
The putters are also finished with a platinum champagne plate that adds to the distinctive look. But Rednecks are about more than just looks.
The red anodized aluminum hosel offers several advantages, according to Dunlop. Because of extra weight in the hosel, many standard putters, Dunlop says, end up being "heel-weighted," an imbalance that can cause golfers to push or pull short putts. By using an ultra-lightweight aluminum hosel, the Redneck Putters keep the weight more evenly distributed throughout the putter, positioning the sweet spot in the center of the face.
In addition to the accurately centered sweet spot, Dunlop says the red anodized hosel also softens the impact of the stroke on the ball, resulting in better feel on both long and short putts.
Redneck putter heads are 100-percent CNC milled from a forged block of 8620 soft carbon steel, offering offering great feel without compromising durability.
"The Redneck Putters are designed to be soft at impact, giving every golfer the tools needed to excel on the greens," said Gray, Director of Product Development, Focus Golf Systems, Inc. "Most of all, the Rednecks are fun ... From the wacky names and appearances to the resulting performance, this line is designed specifically to make golf more enjoyable for everyone."
At release, Redneck putters come with an MSRP of $129 each.
