Stenson won the season-ending Tour Championship on Sunday by three strokes over Jordan Spieth and Steve Stricker. The first-place prize for the tournament was $1,440,000.
But the bigger check is the $10 million bonus Stenson earns as FedEx Cup winner. Stenson entered the Tour Championship in second place in the FedEx standings, behind Tiger Woods. But Woods had a rough opening two rounds in Atlanta, and finished 22nd out of the 30 players entered. So the final Top 5 in FedEx Cup standings looks like this:
1. Henrik Stenson, 4,750 points
2. Tiger Woods, 2,743 points
3. Steve Stricker, 2,650 points
4. Adam Scott, 2,278
5. Zach Johnson, 2,238
It's been a remarkable closing couple months for Stenson on the 2013 PGA Tour. Stenson actually played quite well earlier in the year, too: He finished eighth at the Arnold Palmer Invitational in May, followed by a runner-up at the Houston Open. There was also a fifth at The Players Championship.
But in late July Stenson caught fire. He was second at the British Open, second at the WGC Bridgestone Invitational, third at the PGA Championship.
His performance in the FedEx Playoffs was off-on-off-on: 43rd at The Barclays, then a win at the Deutsche Bank Championship; 33rd at the BMW Championship, then a win at the Tour Championship.
And now the 2013 PGA Tour season is over, and Henrik Stenson in the FedEx Cup champion.
