Do You Anchor? How Will You Adjust to the Ban?

By November 28, 2012

Follow me on:

Are you a golfer who anchors his or her belly putter or long putter? Then you have much more at stake in the proposed Rule 14-1b (Ban on Anchoring) announced on Wednesday by the USGA and R&A.

We'd love to hear how you plan to adjust to the ban. Remember that the rule change won't affect your ability to use a belly putter or long putter, just the ability to anchor those putters. So, for example, if you are a senior golfer with a bad back, the ban on anchoring won't force you to give up that broomstick putter. You could still use it even after the anchoring ban goes into effect on Jan. 1, 2016 - it just won't be "legal" from that point to anchor it.

So if you anchor, do you plan to keep using a belly or long putter but without anchoring? Or do you plan to go back to a conventional putter? Will you switch to a new putting method now? Or might you keep anchoring for as long as you can and only worry about in 2016? Or will you ignore the anchoring ban completely? Or even (gasp - don't do it!) give up the game in protest?

If you anchor, tell us how you plan to adjust to the coming ban on anchoring.
