PGA Tour Year Wraps Up at Disney

By November 5, 2012

Follow me on:

The final tournament of the 2012 PGA Tour season takes place this week, the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals Classic at Disney Resort. It's the traditional season-ender on tour - but this is almost surely the last time the PGA Tour season will end at the Disney.

A couple weeks ago there were rumors that this tournament might fold - that if it couldn't be the season-ender, its sponsors weren't willing to continue. That appears unfounded now, but why can't the CMNHC wrap up next year, too, on tour? Because at the end of 2013, the PGA Tour is going to its new October-through-September tour schedule. The 2013 Disney won't be part of the 2013 PGA Tour season, but rather the 2014 season. It won't be at the end of a season, it will be at the beginning of a season.

The Orlando Sentinel is now reporting that expectations are the Disney next year will be the sixth or seventh tournament on the 2014 season schedule.

But what about this year's tournament? It's a field devoid of stars, especially after defending champ Luke Donald withdrew. The focus is on the bottom of the money list, where some veterans are taking one last shot at climbing inside the Top 125. Billy Mayfair is now the golfer at 125; those outside include Trevor Immelman, Justin Leonard, Stewart Cink, Camilo Villegas and Stuart Appleby. (View the money list.)
