The co-headliners on the world golf tours this week are the RBC Canadian Open on the PGA Tour and the LPGA Tour's Evian Masters.
Ernie Els, fresh off his British Open victory, headlines the Canadian Open. Els has always been a very popular player, but his galleries this week should be huge. Expect Els to dominate the TV coverage, too. It will be interesting to see how he fares, coming off his fourth major championship, one that was emotionally draining in some ways (Els' good friend Adam Scott, whose collapse set up Els' Open victory, is not playing this week), and having to deal with jet lag on top of that.
Others in the field this week in Ontario include defending champ Sean O'Hair, plus Paul Casey, Hunter Mahan, Matt Kuchar, Ryo Ishikawa, Jim Furyk, Kevin Na, Charl Schwartzel and Vijay Singh.
As for the LPGA, its visit to Paris marks the last year of the Evian Masters as a "regular" tour stop. Beginning in 2013 this tournament is elevated to major championship status. Ai Miyazato is the defending champ.
(The Women's British Open typically follows the Evian on the LPGA schedule, but due to the London Olympics the Women's British is delayed this year until September.)
