Conceding Putts: What's Your Strategy?

By , About.com GuideFebruary 25, 2012

Follow me on:

During match play, such as at the Ryder Cup or WGC Accenture Match Play Championship or a tournament at your club, golfers have the option to concede an opponent's putt. When a concession is offered, the opponent doesn't have to hole the ball.

During telecasts of match play tournaments, there are invariably times when the announcers start discussing the strategy and tactics of conceded putts. When should you offer a concession, when should you not?

What's your take? We'd like to hear how you handle concessions in your own match play matches. Do you have a consistent strategy that you always follow, or do your tactics vary depending on the opponent and the situation? Share your thoughts on concessions here.
