This Week: LPGA Championship

The Wegmans LPGA Championship is the second major of the 2011 LPGA season, and kicks off a stretch of 3.5 majors in four tournaments for the tour. In two weeks comes the U.S. Women's Open. Three weeks after that is the Women's British Open. And between the USWO and WBO is the Evian Masters, not an LPGA major (but a major on the LET), but certainly one of the biggest women's tournaments of the year.

Cristie Kerr is the defending champ at the LPGA Championship, and she dominated the 2010 tourney even more than Rory McIlroy dominated last week's U.S. Open. At the 2010 LPGA Championship, Kerr won by 12 strokes, and tied the record for most strokes under par in women's major (19-under).

Kerr is playing well, too, finishing second in the last three LPGA events. The three winners in those past three tourneys are Yani Tseng, Brittany Lincicome and Suzann Pettersen. And those are four great candidates to win right there (Tseng and Pettersen are past winners of the LPGA Championship).

Check our LPGA Championship page for more tournament facts.

The PGA Tour is in Connecticut this week for the Travelers Championship. Bubba Watson won his first career PGA Tour title there last year and is back to defend.

The European Tour is in Germany for the BMW International Open.
